Subject: Peavey "Trans Tube" Amplifier

Hey Harp-lers,

I've had my eyes open for a good buy on an old tube amp for some time now. Maybe they're just too popular around here (Boston area). Often the old banged up used amps cost more than the new ones. I have an old Kustom amp that plays pretty well. I'd kinda like a lighter, easier to tote amp, that distorts at lower volume.

Anyway, Daddy's Junky Music is having a sale and they're listing an interesting amp for under $100 new. I'm wondering if any of you folks have tried it. It's peavey's "Rage 158" "Trans tube" amp. It has 15 watts RMS and an 8" speaker. They claim it reproduces "not only the sound, but the response patterns of vacuum tubes as well".

Anybody know if this is fact or fiction?
