Subject: Billy Branch GIG

Saw Billy Branch & the Sons of Blues sunday night in Antwerp (Belgium) and I tell you guys, they're hot stuff. Three hours of energetic, fresh & original Chicago-style blues. They sold their 20 CD's in about five minutes. There was only about 100 people in the club, but when I tried to get hold of a copy of their latest CD they were sold out. I can't wait to find it in the shop.

Billy Branch played quite a lot impressive solo's on the high register of his harps. He's not a speed devil, but he really did some "lightening fast"-runs.

I hope you people understand what I'm saying here 'cause I might be translating flemish expressions ;-)=.

Different sounds as well from most of the electric players. No bullet, but a vocal mike through -I guess- a digital delay and an octaver on the high harps. On one very quiet part, you could hear your neighbour's breathing almost better than the whole band together, he was troat miking the harp. Interesting effect.

I'd also like to mention the guitar player, Carl Wheathersby (sp. ?). He did a couple of solo's that made all my hair stand straight up.

Watch out for this band !!!

Ciao, Steven De bruyn.
