Subject: Re: Blues as an accepted art form

I'm sorry, Mike, but it just ain't so. Johnny Winter, Alm. Bros., Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Ry Cooder and any number of straight blues and blues tinged rock and blues tinged folk performers made a respectable living and showing off and of their talents. I heard far more painful attempts at Stairway to Heaven and Orange Blossom Special (to paint a wide enough spectrum) than harp hack jobs on LW or Paul BUtterfield ( I seem to remember him from the 60's, too...)

Working musicians in my town refer to the current crop of blues tinged 'bands' as the stupid-blues. 12 bars, two guitars, maybe a harp and enough bass thump to blow anybody's bazooka tubes. 99% white and from the suburbs. Music for frat boys to puke to.

I find this sort of analysis to be self-serving and self-pivoting, but unfortunately not self-limiting.
